I have been a patient of Dr. Hartnett for a number of years. Prior to my green laser prostate surgery, my expeience was limited to tests. My BPH had reached the point where corrective measures had to be taken if I were to have a reasonable life. Terazosin which works for many, gave me severe edema in my legs. After consultation, I elected the green laser. The operation, I was told, lasted 2 hours. I was out for 3. There was no pain. Moderate irritation similar to a scraped knee ( I have a higher pain threshold than most ) which required no drug. I get GI bleeding from NSAIDs. The major problem was the catheter. In my view, it was a poor design, so large as to cause urethral bleeding at the glans. It also was relatively inflexible and I'm sure a more compliant design would be easily accomplished, if they gave the job to a senior engineer. I suspect the laparascopic tube was larger than comfortable and possibly dictated the catheter size. Still a bad design. Otherwise, no compli-cations or other adverse effects. More information pre- and post-surgery probably would have helped.
