I've been a musician for around 7 years now, so I'm no expert but I know a terrible orchestral instrument when I see one. When I went to purchase a 4/4 size violin I brought my 2/4 and 3/4 size to trade in. These instruments were fairly decent and I fully understand that it's harder to sell the smaller instruments, but my main concern was the instrument I received. I've been playing it for about 4 years now and it's fine tuners are freezing up, I've had to replace pegs because no amount of dope can fix them, and the bow broke in a year. The guy who sold it to me had a really bad attitude, was rude to me, and broke a string when he was trying to tune it.

This place was great. Eric was awesome to deal with and very knowledgeable about questions I had. I am a newbie in playing and they didn't act above me and I am used to this at big chain stores. Do yourself a favor and stop by
All in all, don't trust them with instruments you care about especially orchestral instruments. If your gonna purchase an instrument be sure you know how to spot a bad instrument, but only as a last resort.
The entirety of the Barnstable Music department does not trust them with their instruments, not even the teachers. One of the girls gave her cello to them to replace the sound peg. It took TWO MONTHS, that should take them not even a week.
Seriously, there's nowhere else to go. They have a good selection. The staff is engaging and knowledgeable. Prices are competitive. The fact that they have used instruments and equipment can really help your stop fretting.
